Plateau Point overlooks several miles of the Colorado River as it flows 1,300 feet below through the inner canyon gorge, enclosed by dark walls of Vishnu schist, an ancient igneous rock underlying all the Grand Canyon's flat sedimentary layers. The overlook is reached by a 6.3 mile hike along the
Bright Angel and Plateau Point Trails.
