Bullhead City has a scenic location on the east banks of the Colorado River, along Hwy 95 a little way south of Hwy 68, which crosses the river just below Davis Dam. The town has two centers, separated by a strip of undeveloped desert; the main area to the south is mostly residential, occupying the inside of a wide bend on the river, while a smaller section to the north includes various business and a limited selection of lodging. This district faces the casinos of Laughlin, Nevada, on the far side of the river. Both communities are served by Laughlin/Bullhead City International Airport to the east.

Apart from the casinos, the main attraction nearby is Lake Mohave, at the edge of Lake Mead National Recreation Area. The closest access is Katherine Landing, 7 miles north of town, while a quieter alternative is Telephone Cove one mile further.
