US 101 runs through Humboldt Redwoods State Park, following the valley of the Eel River, and intersects several times with the Avenue of the Giants, the main scenic drive. The other paved route across the park is Mattole Road, which runs alongside Bull Creek for ten miles then climbs into the hills.
