The north shore of Maroon Lake affords a fine view of the two main peaks of the Maroon Bells, 3 miles further south along the valley of West Maroon Creek. Other high mountains surround the lake on both sides, covered by patches of aspen trees and bushes which take on attractive red and yellow colors in fall. The hills recede to the north, and the valley opens out after ten miles, near Aspen.
