Petalonyx parryi is a rounded shrub, up to 5 feet tall, with many leaves and branches, growing in desert areas, often near washes, and/or on pale-coloured, clayish substrates. It is very similar to
petalonyx nitidus, and inhabits some of the same areas; the main difference is in the number of flowers in its spherical or somewhat elongated clusters - between 35 and 65, compared with between ten and 30.
Branches grow at most 5 inches per year, rather less than for petalonyx nitidus (up to 14 inches). Flowers have a tubular, greenish-yellow corolla, opening to five white lobes, noticeably bilaterally symmetric rather than radially symmetric. Stamens are exerted, and affixed below the petal lobes, arising between them.
