This panorama shows the westernmost part of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River; the canyon starts upstream at Lower Yellowstone Falls, from where the river flows through an ever deepening gorge formed of colorful, volcanic rocks. The viewpoint is on top of a small hill right on the rim, a short distance east of the popular overlook at Artist Point, at the end of the South Rim Drive.
