Buckeye is the westernmost of the southern Phoenix suburbs; a dispersed, desert community centered on the intersection of I-10 with Hwy 85 from Gila Bend. The area north of the interstate is undeveloped, dominated by the White Tank Mountains which rise to 4,018 feet, while to the south the land is mostly agricultural, irrigated using water from the seasonal Agua Fria River. The town center, a mix of estates, public buildings and a limited number of shops, has a quiet location 4 miles from I-10, but the main commercial area is alongside the interstate at exit 117 (Watson Road), where stores include Lowe's and Walmart. The next nearest places along I-10 with hotels are Quartzsite (97 miles west) and Goodyear (12 miles east).
