San Diego Bayside Hotels

All accommodations at Sheraton San Diego have spectacular views of the waterfront - the hotel is built in the center of Harbor Island, overlooking the marina and San Diego Bay, just off Harbor Drive and only half a mile by road from the international airport (complimentary shuttle provided). This is a large, full service property of 1,011 guest rooms including 42 suites, plus 62 meeting rooms totaling over 115,000 square feet of space. Six food & beverage outlets serve food and drink for every occasion. All rooms feature a private balcony or patio. For recreation and leisure, the hotel offers a 24 hour fitness center, the Island Breeze Spa, and an extensive outdoor pool complex, within the landscaped gardens. Cruises and boat rentals are available.

Open summer 2021, the newly built Monsaraz Hotel is an upscale, boutique property just across the street from FishermanÕs Landing and America's Cup Harbor, in a lively neighborhood with many shops, bars and restaurants. Hotel highlights are a cocktail bar, a secluded courtyard staging live events, and a full service restaurant, plus a fitness center and meetings facilities. Design and decor, and the name, reflect the Portuguese history of the region, dating back to the first settlers at Point Loma in the 1500s. There are 92 guest rooms available.

The Hilton has one of the most spectacular locations of any San Diego hotel, on the narrow spit of land dividing the harbor from the main part of San Diego Bay, and is also just about the closest hotel to the international airport (one mile; free shuttle available). The city center is 3 miles east. All the oversized guest rooms enjoy unobscured views of the bay, marina or downtown; guests can also choose from a number of suites with extra living space plus a microwave & refrigerator. There are several restaurants on Harbor Island and one in the hotel, open all day until 10 pm; the adjacent bar serves drinks & meals until midnight. The largest meeting room can accommodate events of up to 180 people.

One of ten Holiday Inn hotels in the San Diego area, the Bayside inn is an older building 200 feet from the north edge of San Diego Bay, overlooking the marina, in a generally quiet area close to the US Naval Training Center. The hotel is situated along Harbor Drive, a road which passes the airport after 2 miles and the downtown San Diego 2 miles further; the many other nearby attractions include Sea World a short distance north and Cabrillo National Monument to the south. The 237 rooms are divided into several blocks arranged around a sizeable garden area containing an outdoor pool, whirlpool, a 9 hole putting course, and many palm trees. Free parking and a free airport shuttle are available, plus other services of a restaurant, gift shop/newsstand, fitness center, games room, and 10 meeting rooms (4,805 sq ft of event space). The hotel rebrands as DoubleTree by Hilton San Diego Bayside, late 2024.

Many of the 200 guest rooms at the recently built Courtyard San Diego Airport/Liberty Station have fine views over San Diego Bay - the hotel is part of a shopping center facing part of the waterfront, just off Harbor Drive and at the edge of the new Liberty Station development. The international airport is 2 miles east, with downtown San Diego 2 miles further. The hotel occupies a spacious site, surrounded by gardens and a short walk from a waterside park, and its many amenities include a restaurant, lounge/bar, picnic area and a cafe overlooking the bay. There are good meetings facilities - 5,000 sq ft of event space, and a business center. Parking is free (though not breakfast), and leisure amenities comprise an outdoor pool, whirlpool and fitness center.

The Homewood Suites occupies half of a new development along the Pacific Highway, shared with the Hilton Garden Inn; both hotels opened summer 2016. The waterfront is one block away, while most places in the city center are between one and two miles south. The hotel offers 160 oversized suites, all with a separate living area, a work desk and a full kitchen. Weekday evening receptions and daily hot breakfasts are complimentary, while snacks and drinks may be purchased 24 hours a day from the onsite convenience store. Guests can take advantage of a fitness center and a rooftop pool, which has fine views across San Diego Bay. Access is from Interstate 5 exit 17A (hawthorn Street)

Most San Diego Bayside hotels have a scenic setting, and the Homewood Suites is no exception; rooms are divided between two blocks facing a channel on the north edge of the bay, in the recently developed Liberty Station area, just off Harbor Drive. This location is just over a mile from the international airport and 4 miles from Sea World. Half the guest accommodations have harbor views; the others look out over the extensive parking lot at the front. All are suites - two bedroom, one bedroom or studio - and all contain a full kitchen. Free hot breakfast is served each morning, and free receptions weekday evenings. An outdoor pool, fitness center, hot tub and basketball court are available for relaxation.

The Hilton Garden Inn provides affordable, well-managed accommodations with an easy-to-reach location along the Pacific Highway, about half way (2 miles) between downtown San Diego and the international airport. Guests are a short walk away from the harbor, Waterfront Park and the Maritime Museum, as well as a wide selection of restaurants. The hotel shares a building with the another Hilton property, the Homewood Suites, and has several joint facilities including a fitness center, rooftop pool, meeting space and restaurant/bar. Select guest rooms have bay views; others look out across the mostly commercial neighborhood.

The Hampton Inn is a 2019 development, along Harbor Road by the west edge of San Diego Airport, served by complimentary shuttle. Guests are within walking distance of several beautiful shoreline parks, and the exciting Liberty Station neighborhood, on the far side of the Harbor Road bridge. The hotel has an outdoor pool, beside a patio with harbor views, and also a well-equipped fitness center. Hot breakfast is complimentary, tea/coffee are available all day in the lobby, and a 24 hour market sells drinks & snacks. All guest rooms are equipped with a refrigerator and microwave.

Open summer 2019, the TownePlace Suites by Marriott has a spectacular location along Harbor Drive overlooking the marina, within walking distance of several shoreline parks, and is also one of the closest hotels to San Diego Airport (0.9 miles). There are numerous restaurants and bars nearby to the west, in the Liberty Station district. All accommodations at the 222 room hotel are suites (two bedroom, one bedroom and studio), and all are equipped with a full kitchen. Hot buffet breakfast is complimentary. Other features include a bbq area, meeting space and outdoor pool.

Two miles west of San Diego International Airport, the Ramada is an affordable, full service hotel with a good location on the shore of San Diego Bay; select rooms have views across a road and car park to the harbor. Others overlook the outdoor pool and patio, and many have a private balcony. The surrounding neighborhood is generally quiet and residential, but including a selection of restaurants and small shops within walking distance, and the natural landscapes of Cabrillo National Monument just 3 miles south. Airport transportation, wi-fi and continental breakfast are complimentary.

Not many hotels have their own marina, but the Best Western Island Palms makes full use of its beautiful location on Shelter Island, in the middle of San Diego Bay. Boats line the waterfront to the rear of the hotel, while on the other side is the open expanse of the bay - all 174 rooms have great views of the water, and are clean & well equipped, if a little on the small side. All day dining is available on site at the waterfront Blue Wave Bar and Grill, though the island has at least 6 other restaurants, all within easy walking distance, or reachable on the free bicycles provided by the hotel. The complex also includes two outdoor pools, an exercise room, spa, and banquet/meeting space for up to 175 guests.

Most of the 111 rooms of Best Western Yacht Harbor Hotel, on six floors, overlook the marina at the north edge of San Diego Bay - the hotel is located alongside Harbor Boulevard, about a 3 minute walk from the water's edge. The neighborhood contains a mixture of shops and restaurants near the bay then houses further back, with the US Naval Training Center just to the east; the best nearby place to eat seems to be Pizza Nova, a full service Italian diner just across the road. The hotel offers amenities of free continental breakfast, an outdoor pool, hot tub, exercise room, meeting room and complimentary airport transportation.

The two story Comfort Inn at the Harbor provides budget motel accommodation, but still with a good location, about 300 feet from the edge of San Diego Bay and 2 miles east of the international airport. The inn has 45 smallish rooms linked by exterior corridors, and an outdoor heated pool next to lawns, palm trees and a sundeck. Most of the central San Diego attractions are within 5 miles; for those not driving there is a bus stop right next to the hotel, on Rosecrans Street. Free breakfast is served and there is a good selection of nearby restaurants.
