New York-New York
Another of the big new themed casinos that opened towards the end of the 1990s, New York-New York houses guests in a row of 12 connected towers based on familiar skyscrapers in
Manhattan including the Chrysler and Empire State buildings, while at the front, like
Paris just up the street, stand replicas of other city landmarks: the Statue of Liberty, Grand Central Terminal, Brooklyn Bridge, the Whitney Museum and several more. Winding around some of these attractions and passing partly inside the property is a bright red
rollercoaster, using cars designed to resemble yellow cabs, and which has a maximum speed of 67 mph. The interior contains Times Square, Central Park and a whole street of restaurants, inspired by Greenwich Village. New York-New York is one of ten casinos in Las Vegas from the
MGM Resorts International empire, and is linked to two adjacent properties of this group -
MGM Grand and
Excalibur - by pedestrian bridges over the busy streets alongside (Tropicana Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard).
New York-New York covers a rather smaller area than other nearby hotels but still offers all necessary facilities. There is an 84,000 sq ft casino, six main restaurants, five bars, a spa, a large swimming pool and a limited selection of boutiques. The signature show is another from the famous Cirque du Soleil group - the adult-oriented
Zumanity, featuring an exotic mixture of cabaret and burlesque.
