Since being named in 1870
Old Faithful Geyser has been seen by millions of people and remains the single most popular attraction of Yellowstone. The main viewing area is a 1,000 foot long, semi-circular raised wooden boardwalk on the south side, 300 feet from the vent, but the geyser can be inspected from all angles via a loop path around the other sides - as in the photograph - though this is somewhat further away. An alternative, elevated viewpoint is along the
Observation Point Trail. Old Faithful sends water 150 feet in the air, during an eruption lasting several minutes, followed by a quiet period lasting between 60 and 110 minutes. So although not particularly regular, the geyser erupts predictably, and more frequently than any other large geyser in the park.
