Since its 2008 opening, right on the waterfront in the middle of Cannery Row, the luxurious InterContinental the Clement Monterey has become the top rated hotel in town, offering guests breathtaking views over the Pacific Ocean, and a great location, within walking distance of the many attractions of downtown Monterey such as Monterey Bay Aquarium one block north. The hotel is an attractive pastel-colored, wooden-paneled building of 4 floors and 208 rooms/suites, many with a private balcony overlooking the bay. The restaurant, bar and courtyard lounge also have expansive sea views, while the many other amenities include a modern fitness center, spa, outdoor pool, several shops, children's day care service, guest laundry and over 15,000 square feet of meeting/event space.

Monterey Beach Hotel is about the closest hotel to the Pacific anywhere on Monterey Bay, with 102 of the 196 rooms having perfect ocean views, less than 50 feet from the water. The resort takes up quite a large site on the beach along the appropriately named Sand Dunes Drive, just next to Highway 1 but separated by the main road from all other development, and is within a couple of miles of the districts of Seaside, Retreat, Del Monte & Sand City; the center of Monterey is 3 miles west. East facing rooms have relaxing views over the hotel's courtyard, gardens or outdoor pool. The many amenities include a restaurant, gift shop, exercise room, hot tub, and event facilities for up to 650 people.

Two blocks from Fisherman's Wharf and the marina, the Marriott Monterey is one of the best located hotels in town, as well as among the most luxurious, with many facilities for both business and leisure. There are 341 brightly-decorated rooms & suites, many with ocean views, others looking out over the surrounding leafy suburbs, and all featuring the extra comfortable Marriott bedding. The range of dining outlets on-site comprises a coffee bar, cafe serving breakfast & lunch, and a bar/grill open for dinner and evening drinks. Meetings facilities are also about the most comprehensive in town, with no fewer than 24 rooms on offer, and a grand total of 56,000 sq ft of event space, either in the hotel or the linked Monterey Conference Center.

Hilton's only representative in Monterey is the Hilton Garden Inn, which borders the campus of Monterey Peninsula College and is a short walk from El Estero Park (sports facilities, trails and playground overlooking a small lake). The nearest beach is 0.7 miles away. There are no external restaurants close by, but the onsite, Californian-style Pacific Grille is open for breakfast, dinner and evening room service, while the Lobby Lounge serves drinks & snacks. Freshly caught fish is available every day. The hotel occupies a large site, lined by mature oak trees which help shield the accommodation blocks from Hwy 1 just to the east. Other highlights include an outdoor pool, 24 convenience store, 24 hour fitness center and 6.500 sq ft of meeting space.

Despite being positioned next to the busy Cabrillo Highway (CA 1), Hampton Inn Monterey has an excellent location - to the east, the building overlooks Roberts Lake, which together with the adjacent Laguna del Ray is surrounded by parkland with trees and walking trails, while to the west, just the far side of the freeway, are the dunes and sand of Monterey State Beach. The boutique-style hotel is half a mile from the ocean and 3 miles from the city center; other highlights include coastal views, an atrium lobby with aquarium-inspired artwork, a 24 convenience store, free hot breakfast and a media room with games and TVs.

Like most of the other small motels along Fremont Street, guest rooms at Ramada Monterey are accessed by exterior corridors; those at the front are all on the ground floor, while at the rear are a pair of two-floor blocks, either side of the parking lot, which has an outdoor pool at one side, well away from the road. This location is just less than one mile from the Pacific Ocean, at Monterey State Beach. The motel has a well maintained floral garden at the front, but otherwise, facilities and rooms are similar to its many neighbors: amenities are free continental breakfast, free wi-fi and a microwave/refrigerator in all guest accommodations.

The boutique-style Holiday Inn Express in Monterey provides just about the closest accommodation to Cannery Row; located along Wave Street, the hotel is just one block from the Pacific Ocean and a short walk away from all the many other attractions of Monterey's beachfront area. The 43 clean, modern rooms are on 3 floors, some overlooking the sheltered courtyard/garden area (with hot tub), others with views over the town or out to sea. Free underground parking is available; also complimentary are continental breakfast and an evening cheese & wine reception.

One of six Best Western hotels in Monterey, the De Anza Inn is 2 miles east of downtown along N Fremont St, close to the suburbs of Seaside & Del Rey Oaks, and just 2 blocks south of Highway 1. The nearest beach is a mile away. This is a well regarded hotel, significantly cheaper than those nearer the town center, but offering clean, comfortable, spacious lodging in 43 rooms on 3 floors with all necessary facilities - free continental breakfast, adjacent to a 24 hour restaurant (Denny's), outdoor pool, hot tub, spa and free parking.

Best Western Monterey Inn is one of the closest hotels to the center of Monterey, situated along Abrego Street, a little way south of downtown - in a generally quiet, wooded neighborhood that is 1.2 miles from Cannery Row and 0.6 miles from Fisherman's Wharf/Monterey State Beach. The hotel is built on a low hill, high enough for some of the top floor rooms to have views of the ocean. Accommodation consists of 80 large rooms, all with a microwave & refrigerator, and some with a private balcony. The inn has an outdoor pool/hot tub, and serves free continental breakfast; other meals are available from several nearby restaurants.

Best Western Park Crest Motel is south centrally located in Monterey along Munras Avenue, about half way (one mile) between the beach and Highway 1. The surroundings are quiet, residential and tree-lined - on the far side of the road is Don Dahvee Park, which features a hiking trail through oak woodland. The motel has a typical appearance with rooms (53 of them) on 2 floors linked by exterior corridors, and amenities of a spa, outdoor pool and free continental breakfast. Some of the rooms have views across town to Monterey Bay.

Although next to the municipal airport, away from the coast, Comfort Inn Monterey Peninsula is still within 7 miles of all the varied attractions in Carmel, Pacific Grove, Monterey and Seaside. The immediate surroundings are quite peaceful - the hotel has a spacious site on a pine-wooded hillside, one block south of the airport terminal buildings. Rooms are very large and well furnished, all containing a microwave & refrigerator, and some with a private balcony looking out over the trees. The on-site Steak House 68 restaurant provides all day dining, including free continental breakfast.

Days Inn Monterey has a south-central location between Abrego Street and Munras Avenue, not quite in the downtown area but an easy walk away (half a mile). The municipal beach and the marina are a similar distance north. The 55 nicely decorated guest rooms are arranged around three sides of the small parking lot, and are entered by exterior corridors. All feature a refrigerator and free wi-fi, while the motel also offers an outdoor hot tub and free continental breakfast. Select rooms have a fireplace and/or an ocean view.

Fisherman's Wharf is 1.4 miles north of Days Inn Monterey, while Monterey Aquarium is 2.4 miles away; the motel sits towards the south end of Munras Avenue, opposite one of the units of Monterey State Park, in a quiet, leafy, residential neighborhood. The place has the familiar motel-style layout; two ground floor blocks along the north and south sides of the parking lot, with a two-floor building at the rear. Rates are low, reflecting the limited amenities, of free continental breakfast and free wi-fi. Some rooms have a hot tub bath; all are equipped with a microwave & refrigerator.

The Travelodge is the westernmost of many hotels on Fremont Street - located by the intersection with highways 1 and 68, less than one mile from the Pacific coast. The 104 rooms are divided between several blocks, some arranged around the central courtyard garden; quietest are those at the rear, with views towards Monterey Pines Golf Course. The Travelodge boasts an onsite restaurant, the Japenese-style Oh! Sushi, plus a lounge/bar and meeting space. Free continental breakfast is provided. Rooms are equipped with pillow top mattresses, a microwave and a refrigerator; some have a private balcony.

There are only 20 rooms at Super 8 Monterey, all on the ground floor, and all facing west, with limited views towards an adjacent building. Although the only facilities are free continental breakfast and free wi-fi, the motel has a good reputation, for the clean, spacious accommodations, the helpful staff, the low rates, and the generally quiet neighborhood - along Fremont Street, in a mostly residential area of the city. There are several restaurants in the vicinity including Denny's directly opposite.

The Rodeway Inn is typical of the many small motels along Fremont Street on the east side of Monterey; it is small (22 rooms), contained within a two story exterior corridor building (a few are ground floor only), and offers only the basic amenities, of free continental breakfast and free wi-fi. All accommodations are equipped with a microwave. Rooms look out across the parking lot to the adjacent businesses. The motel is one block from the Hwy 78 - Hwy 1 intersection, close to a selection of restaurants.

The Rodeway Inn is almost the southernmost of the long row of hotels along Munras Avenue, and it has a pleasant setting within sight of wooded hills in most directions. Guests are greeted by a pretty flower garden at the front, and have a choice of 38 rooms, in two exterior corridor blocks overlooking the parking lot. An outdoor pool and complimentary continental breakfast are the two main amenities. Rooms are available with refrigerator and microwave. The motel is 0.2 miles north of Hwy 1, and 1.4 miles south of the waterfront in the city center.
