Palm Desert Hotels

The top Marriott hotel in the Palm Springs area takes up 300 acres along Country Club Drive, one mile from the center of Palm Desert; most of the area is used for the two 18-hole championship golf courses, but the hotel itself is substantial, including a large outdoor pool complex and a series of artificial lakes, complete with gondolas that ferry residents to different parts of the site. The JW Marriott Resort has 884 luxurious, elegant rooms & suites, a beautiful atrium lobby featuring a 60 foot waterfall, four dining outlets, a nightclub, the full service Spa at Desert Springs, tennis courts, various shops, and 53,000 sq ft of meeting space, enough for seated events of up to 3,050 attendees.

Hotel Paseo, part of the Autograph Collection from Marriott Hotels, has a southerly location in Palm Desert, south of Hwy 111, close to Shadow Mountain Golf Club. There are many shops and restaurants within walking distance, along El Paseo, and several other golf courses in the neighborhood. The boutique, 150 room hotel was newly constructed in 2017, and it offers luxurious accommodations, featuring local artwork, spa-style bathrooms and private balconies. Also available are a selection of suites, with one or more of a hot tub, billiard table and larger balconies, while for an even more memorable experience, guests can choose to stay in a refurbished 1950 Airstream trailer. The onsite restaurant bar, AC3, features local cuisine, wines and beers. The complex includes an oversize outdoor pool with cabana bar.

Accommodations at the luxurious, full service Westin resort are one or two bedroom villas, featuring sofa bed, private balcony, washer/dryer and fully-equipped kitchen; some have a whirlpool bath. All have views across the greens and fairways of the 36-hole Desert Willow Golf Resort, towards the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto mountains. The largest villas (1,470 square feet) accommodate up to eight adults. Other recreation facilities include a large fitness center, three outdoor pools (with cabanas), a whirlpool spa and 159 foot waterslide. Three food & beverage outlets are Agave Grill & Bar, an all-day restaurant, a cafe selling drinks and light meals, and the al fresco Sanctuary Pool Bar.

Together with the surrounding golf courses, gardens and pools, Marriott's Desert Springs Villas occupies nearly one square mile of beautifully landscaped grounds between Cook Street and Portola Avenue, a little way north of downtown Palm Desert. Most of the timeshare/residential-style accommodations are individual villas with one or two bedrooms and two bathrooms, complete with a full kitchen, private balconies and/or patios, and laundry facilities. Some regular guest rooms are available, with refrigerator & microwave. The villas are distributed across several sections of the resort, accessed by separate side roads. Leisure facilities include 18 tennis courts, seven pools, a fitness center, championship golf courses and various other sports courts. Also on site are a restaurant and food market.

Marriott's Desert Springs Villas II provides nearly identical luxury accommodations to its neighbor, usually at slightly lower prices, reflecting a few small differences in room specifications. There are three room options: two bedroom villas, which additionally feature two sofa beds and a balcony, one bedroom villas (one sofa bed and a balcony) and regular guest rooms (one sofa bed and a balcony). All have a full kitchen and separate areas for living & dining. Guests can take advantage of all the many facilities at the adjacent Desert Springs JW Marriott Resort.

Because the surroundings are less developed, and the mountains to the north are closer, Marriott's Shadow Ridge is slightly more scenic than the other Palm Desert Marriott resort (Desert Springs Villas), but other aspects are similar. Guests stay in one or two bedroom villas (sleeping up to 8 people) overlooking the greens and fairways of the 18 hole championship golf course, sprinkled with lakes and many palm trees. Accommodations include patios, balconies, a hot tub bath and a full kitchen. Selected rooms overlook some of the six swimming pools, or the tennis courts. There are four dining outlets onsite, including a market selling drinks & snacks all day. The nearest shopping center is one mile north along Monterey Avenue, close to the I-10 intersection.

Regular guest rooms are equipped with a sofa bed, microwave, refrigerator and dinnerware, but most accommodations at Marriott's Shadow Ridge II are villas, one bedroom or two bedroom, which feature a full kitchen. The maximum occupancy is eight. The many leisure amenities include a sauna, steam room, tennis courts, fitness center, activity center and six swimming pools. Rooms have beautiful, relaxing views over the lakes and fairways of the adjacent golf course, towards distant mountains on the horizon.

Courtyard Palm Desert is well regarded hotel, noted for its friendly staff, clean rooms, scenic location and good facilities - there is a cafe open for breakfast, a fitness center, guest laundry, meeting rooms, and a courtyard garden featuring an outdoor pool, hot tub and plenty of sunbathing space. Next door is one restaurant (Applebee's) though most of the neighborhood to the south is residential; the nearest stores are one mile away along Cook Street. The land to the north, towards interstate 10, is mostly desert. The property adjoins another Marriott hotel (the Residence Inn), along Frank Sinatra Drive one mile south of Interstate 10.

One of six Marriott properties in Palm Desert, the Residence Inn has a quiet location on the corner of Cook Street and Frank Sinatra Drive, one mile from I-10 on the north side of town. The all-suite hotel offers 130 rooms, in several blocks, many with views over the adjacent Desert Willow Golf Resort and beyond to the distant Santa Rosa Mountains. The rooms, the public areas and the hotel grounds are all beautifully clean and well maintained, making this a very pleasant place to stay. For leisure, the Residence Inn has an outdoor pool, hot tub, 2 tennis courts, fitness center and a putting green, while for dining a free buffet breakfast is served each morning, and a free manager's reception in the evening.

Right at the center of Palm Desert along Hwy 111, the full service Embassy Suites caters for guests in 198 two-room suites featuring a separate bedroom, living area, large work desk, microwave, refrigerator and wet bar. Food for cooking can be purchased from Albertson's supermarket, right next door. Unlike most properties of this brand which are tall buildings containing an atrium lobby, the Palm Desert hotel has two stories, the rooms distributed amongst several blocks around all sides of a sizeable tropical courtyard garden, containing a large pool, fountains, gazebo and outside dining area. Other leisure amenities include six tennis courts and a fitness center. Both hot breakfast and evening receptions are provided free of charge. The Sonoma Grille restaurant serves lunch & dinner.

Homewood Suites Palm Desert is centered on a rather enclosed courtyard garden, in full sun only during the middle of the day, located along Cook Street five miles north of the city center, close to the I-10 intersection. The hotel adjoins a small business park to the north and is close to two academic properties, Palm Desert Center (University of California Riverside) and the Palm Desert Campus of CSU San Bernardino. The all-suite accommodations (studio, one bedroom or two bedroom layouts) include a full kitchen, work desk and sofa bed. Free hot breakfast is provided each morning, and free receptions Monday to Thursday evenings. Grocery shopping service is also complimentary. Leisure facilities are a pool, hot tub, fitness center and putting green.

Hampton Inn Palm Desert is a typically large, modern hotel with a beautiful desert garden at the front, centered on a fountain. Palm trees line the perimeter, and the lush grounds make quite a contrast to the empty, sandy flats that surround the hotel on most sides - nearby are a group of business premises but most of the neighborhood is undeveloped, the city center being 5 miles south. I-10 runs past just to the north; access is from exit 134, Cook Street. The main amenities of the Hampton Inn are the usual outdoor pool, business & fitness centers, meeting space and a small convenience store. Free hot breakfast is served each morning.

The SpringHill Suites of Palm Desert, CA, sits alongside Hwy 111 in the middle of the main shopping area in town, within walking distance of many large stores including those of the Westfield Mall, though also a short walk from the edge of the mountains, where several trails cross the lower slopes. The hotel opened fall 2019, accommodating guests in 108 spacious studio suites, equipped with microwave, refrigerator and sofa bed. Complimentary hot breakfast is prepared each morning. An outdoor pool, fitness center, coin-operated laundry and one meeting room are some of the other amenities.

The 96 room/suite Holiday Inn Express is one of the northerly hotels in Palm Desert, beside Interstate 10 at the Cook Street exit, backing on to undeveloped desert, with good views across Coachella Valley National Wildlife Refuge towards the mountains of Joshua Tree National Park. In the vicinity are several restaurants, clinics and shops; the city center is 5 miles south. The four story, pet friendly hotel opens late 2021, offering free hot breakfast buffet, an outdoor pool, a business center and a fitness center.

At 74675 Highway 111, the Holiday Inn Express Palm Desert is situated on the east side of town, close to numerous golf courses, country clubs and other attractions. Serving Indian Wells, Indio and -Rancho Mirage in addition to Palm Desert, the hotel is 2 miles from the town center and 5 miles south of I-10 (exit 134; Cook Street). The hotel and its large outdoor swimming pool are surrounded by gardens, flower beds and palm trees, all easily appreciated from the private balconies or patios of all 129 rooms. Free hot breakfast buffet is served in the three-floor atrium lobby; other amenities include a sports court, fitness center, whirlpool and guest laundry.

The Best Western Palm Desert Resort occupies a sizeable area along the main road through town (CA 111; Palm Desert Drive), with several buildings fringed by floral gardens and mature palm trees; a relaxing setting though still close to many exclusive shops, casinos, spas and restaurants. The 150 room, 3 floor hotel features an outdoor pool/hot tub, tennis courts & fitness center, and it serves free full breakfast.

The Fairfield Inn by Marriott (open spring 2017) is part of a small commercial area on the far north edge of the city next to I-10 exit 134 - along a short side street, with views of open desert to the west. There are several golf courses nearby, including Avondale, Classic Club and Desert Willow, and plenty of hiking opportunities in the nearby Coachella Valley Preserve. The hotel features the usual amenities of free hot breakfast, free wi-fi, an outdoor pool and a fitness center.

Comfort Suites Palm Desert is one of relatively few Coachella Valley hotels next to interstate 10 - most are along CA 111. The hotel sits at the northwest corner of the intersection of I-10 (exit 137) with Washington Street, next to the Mountain Vista Golf Club and 7 miles northeast of the center of Palm Desert. Also nearby are Indio, Indian Wells, La Quinta, Thousand Palms and over 100 golf courses. All guest rooms contain microwave & refrigerator, and the hotel has an outdoor pool with gardens, newsstand & exercise room. Free full breakfast is served.
