Open spring 2023, AC Hotel San Rafael is one of the few accommodation choices in the city center - at the corner of B Street and Fifth Avenue, a short walk from Boyd Memorial Park, Marin History Museum, and numerous bars & restaurants. The upscale, full-service property has European-influence style and decor; highlights include a rooftop lounge, a fitness center, indoor & outdoor event space and a bar/restaurant. Many of the 140 guest rooms (on five floors) have fine views across the downtown area to the surrounding wooded hills.

All accommodations at Embassy Suites San Rafael are well-equipped, two-room suites, featuring a sofa bed, executive desk, coffee maker, wet bar, microwave and refrigerator. The full service hotel is situated on a quiet side road in a mixed residential/business neighborhood on the east side of US 101, 2 miles north of the city center; it provides both free cooked-to-order breakfast and free evening receptions, and has a restaurant (Grille 101) open for dinner. For other dining choices, there are several restaurants one mile away on the far side of US 101. Guests enter the hotel through a tropical atrium lobby with koi pond, and can take advantage of a range of other facilities including a comprehensive business center and a selection of meeting rooms, the largest catering for events of up to 500 people.

Half way between Petaluma and San Francisco, and less than an hour from the Napa Valley, the Four Points by Sheraton is a popular, well-established hotel of 235 guest rooms, in several connected blocks around a central courtyard garden with outdoor pool. Accommodations include deluxe rooms with patio, and parlour suites. The onsite restaurant, Hillside Tavern, is open for breakfast & dinner, and there are many other dining choices within walking distance, in and around Northgate Mall to the south. The hotel has a prominent location at the intersection of US 101 with Manuel T Freitas Parkway, a short drive from many shoreline and mountain parks.

The exterior corridor SureStay Hotel by Best Western provides budget-priced lodging to San Rafael visitors, with a central location beside the major intersection of highways 101 and I-580 - on the east side, partly shielded behind two large palm trees. Guest rooms face away from the main roads, looking out across the parking lot and outdoor pool. Some contain a microwave and/or hot tub bath. Wi-fi and continental breakfast are provided free of charge, while for other meals, there is a Mexican restaurant just up the street and other places a few blocks south, in and around Main Square Shopping Center.
