Downtown Austin Hotels

JW Marriott is the largest and most luxurious hotel in Austin and amongst the best hotels in all Texas, with over 1,000 rooms & suites, 110,000 square feet of meeting/event space and every conceivable amenity. The recently constructed property occupies most of one block at the corner of 2nd Street and Congress Avenue, 300 feet from a shoreline park along Lady Bird Lake and half a mile from the State Capitol. Austin Convention Center is two blocks east. Highlights are two restaurants, a concierge level, 24 room service, outdoor pool, spa treatments and a huge fitness center.

Open 2020, the Otis Hotel is an upscale boutique property of 191 rooms & suites, sharing a building with the AC Hotel, and it features design and decor inspired by local crafts, history and music, such as a record player in each room, with use of an extensive vinyl library. Food & beverage outlets are a street level burger bar, a first floor steakhouse restaurant and a rooftop lounge, offering fantastic views over the city; adjacent to a terrace and outdoor pool. The hotel has a north-central location just off Guadalupe Street, half a mile north of the Texas Capitol and two blocks from the university campus.

One block from the 1st Street bridge over the Colorado River, W Austin is one of the more upscale hotels in downtown Austin, offering all necessary amenities accompanied by top class customer service. Accommodations include a selection of suites (two bedroom, one bedroom and studio); all guest rooms have stylish, contemporary furnishings and decor, and most enjoy spectacular views across the city. Food & beverage outlets are the Trace restaurant, and the Living Room Bar, which features lounge-style seating and a library of over 8,000 vinyl records. There is also a rooftop bar, overlooking the outdoor swimming pool. Seven meeting rooms stage events of up to 400 people.

Austin Proper Hotel opened late 2019, along 2nd Street one block from the Colorado River; a striking, 32 floor building of 244 guest rooms and suites, with the upper 20 floors used for residences, the largest five bedroom penthouses. There are four food/beverage outlets on the premises, together with 14,000 square feet of function space, and many other amenities including a 5th floor pool with sundeck and cabanas, a 24 hour fitness center plus pilates room, and the full-service Silene Spa. Complimentary bike rental is available. The Proper is a Member of Design Hotels, Marriott's collection of distinctive, upscale properties.

The Downright is one of the closest hotels to the Texas State Capitol - three blocks west along 11th Street, bordering the western I-35 frontage road. Many bars, restaurants and other entertainment centers are within easy walking distance, while onsite dining is provided by The Yard at Waller Creek, featuring traditional dishes with locally-sourced ingredients. Room service is available. Other facilities at the pet friendly, 367 room/suite hotel include a fitness center, an indoor/outdoor pool, and extensive meeting space.

The Westin hotel in downtown Austin towers above the partly low rise neighborhood; a distinctive building of 20 stories at the corner of 5th Street and San Jacinto Boulevard, two blocks north of the Convention Center. Highlight is the top floor rooftop pool, overlooked by the Azul bar/lounge, which has an outdoor terrace lined with transparent panels, affording spectacular views over the city. The main restaurant, Stella San Jac, is open all day, and has a full bar. 24 hour room service is available. Meetings facilities are comprehensive, with nearly 14,000 square feet of space across 12 rooms, enough for events of up to 480 people.

The new downtown Austin Marriott hotel opened early 2021; a huge, luxurious and fully-featured property of 615 guest rooms & suites, and 65,000 square feet of function space, this in a separate block adjacent to the accommodation tower. Highlights include two bars and a restaurant, on the ground floor, and an outdoor pool and leisure area, on the seventh floor. The hotel is located at the corner of Trinity Street and Cesar Chavez Street, right opposite the Austin Convention Center, and one block from parkland along the Colorado River.

Hotel Indigo is one of many upscale accommodation choices in downtown Austin, taking up half of one block between Neches, Red River, 8th and 9th streets, a plot shared with another IHG hotel, the Holiday In Express. Texas State Capitol is half a mile north and there are many restaurants, bars and entertainment outlets within walking distance. The hotel has 133 guest rooms, contained within a brightly colored, ten floor building; all are equipped with home-like amenities, and feature luxurious touches like granite worksurfaces and stainless steel appliances. Floorsize ranges from 745 sq ft to 1220 square feet. General hotel facilities include a fitness center, an oversised pool, meeting space and a restaurant.

The Hilton in downtown Austin is a typically large, luxurious and fully featured property, located in the middle of the bustling arts and entertainment district - the 31 floor building occupies one block between 5th, 4th, Neches & Red River Streets, opposite Austin Convention Center and two blocks from Interstate 35 (exit 234C). Most rooms have fantastic views over the city and of Lady Bird Lake along the Colorado River. The numerous facilities include two restaurants, a bar, coffee shop, executive lounge, spa, rooftop pool, sauna, steam room and hot tub. The meeting facilities are amongst the best in the city, with a massive 80,000 sq ft of space, enough for single events of up to 3,667 people - this is in the Grand Ballroom, the largest in Austin.

All accommodations at the upscale, all-suite DoubleTree Suites Austin feature a full kitchen and separate living area, while some of the penthouse suites have a rooftop balcony. The hotel is situated along 15th Street, just two blocks from the Texas Capitol and four blocks from University of Texas; these and many other places are within range of the complimentary shuttle (2 mile radius). All day dining is provided by the 15th Street Cafe which includes an outdoor terrace; the adjacent lounge is open from 3 pm to 11 pm. Room service is available. Leisure facilities are a rooftop pool (first floor), whirlpool and fitness center. The meeting facilities can cater for events of up to 350 people.

Breakfast, lunch, dinner & in-room dining are available on-site at the full service DoubleTree by Hilton from the stylish FUSE food.drink restaurant; the hotel also has a lobby bar open until 11 pm. The nearest external restaurant (Denny's) is right next door. Guest rooms feature luxury bedding, executive desk, free wi-fi, coffee maker, hair dryer and ironing equipment, many enjoy views westwards across the city center. The hotel is located beside I-35 at the Martin Luther King exit, one block from the edge of the University of Texas campus and half a mile from the Texas State Capitol. Leisure facilities are a 24 hour fitness center and a secluded, tree-lined outdoor pool.

The 156 room/suite AC Hotel opened early 2020 along San Antonio Street, towards the north side of downtown Austin, within half a mile of the university, the State Capitol, House Park, and the Texas State History Museum. Sharing a building with another Marriott property, the Otis, the hotel offers guests all necessary facilities for dining, recreation and business, accompanied by elegant, European-influenced design and attentive customer service. Highlights include two restaurants, a 3,480 square foot ballroom, and a lounge, terrace & pool, all at rooftop level.

The most central of the two Holiday Inn hotels in Austin is located beside Lady Bird Lake on the Colorado River, a few blocks southeast of the high-rise buildings of the downtown district. This is a big hotel of 13 floors and 319 rooms (recently renovated), many enjoying fine views over the lake and areas of adjoining parkland. All have free internet access, a microwave and a refrigerator. The Holiday Inn is also right next to I-35, reached from exits 233 or 233B. On site facilities are a restaurant and lounge/bar (open for breakfast, lunch, dinner & room service), an outdoor pool, convenience store, fitness center, business center and 3,442 sq ft of meetings space.

The most central Courtyard hotel in Austin takes up half a block between 4th St, 5th St, Trinity St and San Jacinto Boulevard - a new, 11 story building shared with the extended stay Residence Inn. Austin Convention Center is just across the street, the State Capitol is 0.7 miles north, and I-35 runs past 4 blocks east. Facilities at the Courtyard include a sports bar/grill (Champion's), open for breakfast, lunch & dinner, and a Starbucks, also serving food all day. Drinks and snacks can be purchased 24 hours a day at the hotel's convenience store, while for leisure the usual three facilities of a pool (indoor), hot tub and fitness center are available. Meetings and events are catered for by 9 rooms totaling 6,600 sq ft of space.

The largest of the four Residence Inn by Marriott properties in Austin occupies half of an imposing, 12 floor building at the intersection of 4th Street with San Jacinto Boulevard (the other part is home to the Courtyard hotel) - a short walk from most of the main sites in the downtown area, such as the Convention Center and the 6th Street entertainment district. The hotel features 179 bright, modern, well equipped suites - all contain a queen bed, pull out sofa and a full kitchen - plus an indoor pool, whirlpool and fitness room. Hot breakfast and evening reception (Mon-Thu) are both provided free of charge. Other facilities shared with the Courtyard include a restaurant, bar, coffee shop and 6,600 sq ft of meeting/event space.

The Embassy Suites is one of the few central Austin hotels on the south side of Lady Bird Lake, still within walking distance of the downtown area, as well as several lakeshore parks and entertainment outlets such as Long Center for the Performing Arts. The hotel caters equally well for short visits or long stays, offering a selection of accommodations including regular rooms, two room suites with a kitchenette & separate living area, and executive suites which have enhanced amenities. Guests staying in the suites are treated to free hot breakfast and free evening receptions. Lunch and dinner are provided by the Copper Bar & Restaurant. Other hotel features are an atrium lobby, indoor pool, fitness center and meeting space for up to 80 people.

The all-suite, extended stay Homewood Suites by Hilton rises 17 stories above the western I-35 frontage road on the south side of downtown Austin, one mile from the Texas Capitol and a short walk from parkland adjoining the Colorado River. All accommodations include a full kitchen and sofa bed. Daily hot breakfast is complimentary, as are the evening receptions provided Monday to Thursday. The fitness center, business center and sundry store are all open 24 hours. Food for cooking can be ordered via the free grocery delivery service. Other highlights include a rooftop pool, a fitness center and meeting space.

Sites within a few blocks of Hilton Garden Inn Austin University include the Texas Capitol, the Moody Center, University of Texas and the Frank C. Erwin, Jr. Center; the hotel has a north-central location in downtown Austin, at the corner of 17th Street and Lavaca Street. This is a tall (17 story) property, with rooftop viewing area on the top floor, providing an unparalleled panorama across the city. The onsite restaurant, Analog, serves locally-inspired cuisine. The hotel also has a fitness center, business center and meeting space; it opened summer 2021.

Hilton Garden Inn Austin Downtown has an easy-to-reach location right beside Interstate 35 (exit 234C; 5th Street), 2 blocks from Austin Convention Center and 7 miles north of the international airport. Many shops, restaurants, clubs, bars and museums are just a short walk away, while the hotel itself also has much to offer including the spectacular, 18th floor Eighteenth over Austin restaurant, which is open for breakfast and dinner. Breakfast is served at the Great American Grill, and snacks can be purchased 24 hours a day from the on-site convenience store. For leisure the hotel offers a 24 hour fitness center and an outdoor wading pool.

Open summer 2024, the Hampton Inn shares a site with another Hilton hotel, the Home2 Suites - located in the East Central district of Austin, 2 miles from downtown, along 2nd Street near the intersection with Northwestern Avenue. Just across the street is Pan American Neighborhood Park; elsewhere in the vicinity are a mixture of residential and business properties. The Oracle Campus is 2 mils south, on the far side of the Colorado River. The pet friendly hotel provides free hot breakfast each morning; it also offers an outdoor pool and a fitness center.

The most central of several Hampton Inn hotels in Austin occupies an imposing, high rise (16 floor) building two blocks from the north shore of Lady Bird Lake and one block from Austin Convention Center; it offers a range of accommodations including executive rooms with extra large work desk, and studio suites, all of which contain a sofa bed & microwave, while some have a whirlpool bath. There are numerous restaurants close by, and one on-site (Le Cafe Crepe), which serves breakfast (complimentary), lunch & dinner. Room service is available from two nearby restaurants. The hotel has New Orleans-style decor, and its other facilities include a convenience store, outdoor patio, meeting space, free wi-fi and a fourth floor outdoor rooftop pool.

Half way (two blocks) between the State Capitol and Austin University, the Hampton Inn is a mid-rise hotel of 137 comfortable rooms, including a selection of studio suites with wet bar, refrigerator, microwave, sofa bed and extra large work area. Free hot breakfast is served each morning, available as a take out version from Monday to Friday. Other features are a spacious, urban-themed lobby, a fourth floor rooftop pool, fitness & business centers and a 760 square foot meeting room. There are two restaurants directly opposite and dozens more within a few blocks.

Home2 Suites, an all-suite/extended stay hotel, opened summer 2024, along 5th Street, 2 miles east of downtown Austin, sharing a site with a Hilton sister hotel, the Hampton Inn. A good selection of restaurants can be found four blocks south, along Cesar Chavez Street. Accommodations are studio suites and one-bedroom suites; all have a full kitchen. The hotel also features free hot breakfast, a convenience store, bbq grills and an outdoor pool. Pets are welcome.

The 162 room Moxy Austin University, the first hotel of this brand in Texas, occupies a relatively small site at the corner of 26th Street and Guadalupe Street, one mile north of the Capitol building in the West Campus district, and right opposite the edge of the University of Texas. The hotel features bright decor and modern design; highlights include 24 hour dining (Zombie Taco), a media wall with digital guestbook, a fitness center, a restaurant/bar, and an outdoor patio with fire pits and comfortable seating. Buffet breakfast is complimentary. Opening is scheduled for late spring 2021.

ElementAustin Downtown shares a building with another Westin hotel, the Aloft, at the 7th Street/Congress Avenue intersection, four blocks south of the State Capitol. The all-suite/extended stay property offers spacious accommodations (studio or one bedroom), all with kitchenette and sofa bed. Daily buffet breakfast and weekday evening receptions are complimentary, while other meals are available at Caroline, a contemporary, lobby-level, all-day restaurant. There is also a bar, serving dinner & evening drinks, and a cafe/coffee house. Other facilities are a fitness center and meeting space.

The Aloft, and the Element sister hotel, occupy a striking, 32 floor tower along 7th Street in downtown Austin, and share many facilities including an all-day restaurant, a bar, a cafe, 24 hour fitness & business centers and three meeting rooms, largest capacity 60. Guests have a choice of 278 rooms, including suites with extra living space and floor-to-ceiling windows, and corner rooms, which have the best views. The Contemporary Austin and Paramount Theatre, both hotel partners, are within easy walking distance.

The Cambria is a late 2023 addition to the row of large hotels on East Avenue, alongside I-35 on the southeast side of downtown Austin, a short walk from trees, parkland and trails beside the Colorado River. Rainey Street Historic District is also very close. Highlights of the upscale, full service hotel are a rooftop lounge featuring live music and specialty cocktails, a lobby level restaurant, and 6,000 square feet of function space. Guest rooms are equipped with spa-like bathrooms and premium accessories.

The 167 room Holiday Inn Express in downtown Austin occupies half of a colorful, newly constructed (2016) building in the Red River neighborhood of the city, shared with the Hotel Indigo. Four blocks south, 6th Street is lined by dozens of bars, restaurants, shops and live music venues, and the hotel is also right next to the Waller Creek Trail, a tranquil, wooded corridor leading north towards the University of Texas. The hotel provides free wi-fi and free hot buffet breakfast; is also has an outdoor pool, fitness center, business center and meeting space.

Free hot breakfast, a fitness center, hot tub, gift shop and convenience store are the main amenities of the Fairfield Inn, an affordable, mid-range hotel along the western I-35 frontage road towards the south edge of downtown Austin. Open late 2023, the hotel is a short walk from parkland along the Colorado River, and just two blocks from the Austin Convention Center. There are also many restaurant close by, along Rainey Street, which parallels the frontage road one block west.

Days Inn Austin University is a good choice for budget lodging near the city center, located beside I-35 near St David's Medical Center and University of Texas, one mile from the downtown area. Rooms are on two exterior corridor floors, and all contain a refrigerator & microwave; some look out over the central courtyard and outdoor pool, lined by palm trees. Continental breakfast, parking and wi-fi are complimentary. There is one restaurant adjacent.

Guests at the affordable Super 8 motel are within walking distance to the Texas State Capitol (half a mile) and many other downtown Austin attractions. Located at the edge of a residential district on the east side of I-35, the motel offers amenities of free wi-fi, free continental breakfast, an outdoor pool, guest laundry and a business center. Rooms are on two stories, accessed by exterior corridors, and arranged around three sides of the central parking area.
