The badlands surrounding
Angel Peak are generally less interesting than some other nearby regions in the San Juan Basin of northwest New Mexico, being mostly composed of soft rocks that do not form hoodoos, but some higher elevation areas have outcrops of harder sandstone, eroded into interesting shapes, and seen from viewpoints along the ten mile gravel track that follows the rim of the plateau bordering the south edge of the formations. There are several places along the road suitable for free primitive camping.
