The
De-Na-Zin Wilderness adjoins the better-known and more accessible Bisti Wilderness, and contains similar formations, generally more spread out, separated by typical high desert scenery of dusty dry washes and little hills. The region contains a fantastic variety of hoodoos and formations, large and small, simple and complex, and often composed of rocks of widely differing colors and textures. Also present are many pieces of petrified wood including some near-complete trunks up to 100 feet long. The badland area is ten miles across so takes a long time to explore fully, though one of the best sections is just 1.3 miles from the main access point.
