Ojito in New Mexico is a recently established (2005) wilderness region close to US 550 near San Ysidro, containing typical badland scenery of colorful hills, eroded cliffs, fossils and hoodoos. The interesting formations tend to occur in little groups, quite well separated, so the best areas take some time to locate. The generally light-colored sandstone often contains thin, darker layers, in rich shades of red, pink and yellow, and in some places the bedrock is eroded into smooth, undulating mounds and gullies.
Location: Cabezon Road, off US 550 south of San Ysidro -
