San Marcos Hotels

The Holiday Inn opened early 2016, adding to the full service lodging choices in San Marcos. The hotel is built along the northern I-35 frontage road, bordering countryside to the rear, and close to the larger open spaces of Purgatory Creek Natural Area. The many facilities include The Springs restaurant/bar, open for breakfast & dinner, and providing room service. Also available are an outdoor pool, business/fitness centers and 3,000 square feet of meeting space; largest single capacity 170. Guests are within walking distance of a shopping center with movie theater and plenty more dining places.

The first Marriott hotel in San Marcos was the Courtyard, a full service property of 97 elegant, modern rooms & studio suites, located just off the western I-35 frontage road and directly opposite Tanger Outlets, half a mile away by road. In the other direction, the hotel borders open farmland; the city center is 5 miles northeast. There are several restaurants within walking distance and one on the premises, open for dinner, lunch, breakfast & room service. A 1,300 sq ft meeting room can accommodate events of up to 75 people. Leisure amenities are the usual pool (outdoor), whirlpool and fitness center.

New for 2022, the Residence Inn adjoins a Marriott sister hotel (Courtyard), along I-35 on the southwest side of the city, set back a little from the highway and bordering open fields to the rear. The many shops and restaurants at Tanger Outlets are directly opposite, while the city center is 5 miles away. The extended stay hotel contains 111 suites, in two bedroom, one bedroom and studio floorplans, all equipped with a full kitchen. Free breakfast is prepared each morning, and free receptions weekday evenings. Food for cooking can be ordered using the free grocery delivery service.

The full service Embassy Suites San Marcos enjoys a quiet, rural setting, not near any other buildings, instead surrounded by fields on three sides - at the McCarty Lane exit of I-35, within walking distance of a large shopping complex to the north, including JC Penney, Target, and many restaurants. Tanger Outlets is one mile away at the next interstate exit. The hotel is the biggest in San Marcos, with 283 guest rooms (all are two-room suites), and 78,000 sq ft of meeting/event space, the largest, Veramendi Ballroom, holding up to 3,000 people. Hot breakfast and evening receptions are complimentary, while other meals can be purchased from the onsite restaurant, Rocky River Grille. Amongst the other amenities are an outdoor pool, fitness center and the Spa Botanica, which offers an extensive range of treatments and therapies.

The Homewood Suites is a summer 2018 addition to the all-suite/extended stay accommodation choices in San Marcos, offering two bedroom, one bedroom and studio suites, all of which are equipped with a full kitchen and separate living area. Complimentary amenities are daily hot breakfast, evening receptions (Monday to Thursday), wi-fi, grocery shopping service and a local area shuttle. The hotel is built along the northern I-35 frontage road, 3 miles southwest of the city center, within walking distance of Stonecreek Crossing Mall, and also near a reasonable selection of restaurants. Other amenities are a 24 hour convenience store, a fitness center, a business center and an outdoor pool.

The Hilton Garden Inn briefly became the northernmost hotel in San Marcos after its opening early in 2017, built along the western I-35 frontage road in a semi-rural neighborhood. Guests are within walking distance of walking trails beside the Blanco River, as well as River Ridge Park, which includes various sporting facilities. The hotel's stylishly decorated guest rooms feature a microwave, coffee maker & free wi-fi. The onsite restaurant serves breakfast and dinner; for other dining choices, the nearest places are about one mile south. A 24 hour convenience store sells drinks, snacks and sundries.

The 90 room/suite Hampton Inn is one of the more central San Marcos hotels, positioned by the I-35/Hwy 123 intersection, part of a typical roadside group of restaurants and gas stations. Guests are a short walk from the fields and woodland of John J Stokes City Park, either side of the San Marcos River, and the hotel has a relatively quiet location, shielded from the main roads behind adjacent buildings. Texas State University is 1.5 miles north. Hotel highlights include a secluded outdoor pool, two meeting rooms, a fitness center and free hot breakfast, also available in a takeout version.

East-facing guest rooms at Wingate by Wyndham San Marcos have pleasant views across a road towards the rural surroundings of John J Stokes City Park, which includes one mile of the San Marcos River. Those on the west side look out across several restaurants towards Interstate 35; access is from exit 204A, also serving the city center a short distance north. All accommodations contain a tea/coffee maker, microwave and refrigerator. Free continental breakfast is provided, together with leisure amenities of an outdoor pool and fitness center. People here to work have use of a business center and two meeting rooms, each seating 25.

The Holiday Inn Express (open summer 2018) is part of the Stonecreek Crossing shopping mall on the south side of San Marcos, one mile from many more stores at Tanger and Premium Outlets, and accessed from I-35 exit 201, McCarty Lane. Away from the freeway the land soon becomes wooded, hilly and very little developed, and there are several designated natural areas a few miles north. The hotel has four floors, 88 guest rooms, an outdoor pool, business & fitness centers, and a dining area where the free hot breakfast is served.

All accommodations at the extended stay Candlewood Suites San Marcos are suites, in studio or one bedroom configurations, and all include a fully equipped kitchen. Food for cooking can be purchased from the onsite, 24 hour convenience store, and meals ca also be prepared using the gas grills beside the gazebo. Around ten restaurants are close by, around I-35 exit 202 - the hotel is on the north side of the interstate, positioned 450 feet back, within sight of open countryside. A 24 hour fitness center, an outdoor pool, complimentary guest laundry and a free lending library are some of the other amenities. Also within walking distance are several large stores and a 12 screen movie theater.

Best Western San Marcos is part of a group of hotels a mile or so east of the city center, facing I-35 (north side), a short walk from Crook Park along the San Marcos River. Rooms at the rear are quieter, overlooking a wooded residential neighborhood. The outdoor pool & hot tub are also at the back, away from the access road. The hotel provides free continental breakfast and adjoins one restaurant (Mexican); other dining places can be found a little way northeast, at the Hwy 80 exit of the interstate. Guest rooms contain a microwave and a refrigerator, while the hotel also has a business center and laundry facility.

Fairfield Inn by Marriott San Marcos is built at the edge of one of the main shopping areas in the city, around the junction of Hwy 80 with I-35 (exit 205) - along the eastern frontage road. In the vicinity are wooded land and a small lake, but a short walk south leads to various restaurants and stores, including Walmart. The 108 room/suite hotel opened in 2015, and it offers all the expected amenities: a fitness center, business center, hot tub, outdoor pool, and two meeting rooms. Free hot buffet breakfast is complimentary.

New for 2015, the Comfort Inn enjoys semi-rural surroundings on the south side of I-35, half way (2 miles) between Tanger Outlets and the central San Marcos exit (Hwy 123). All the hotel's 72 guest rooms contain a microwave & refrigerator, and have views over fields and just a few adjacent buildings. The closest restaurants and shops are one mile northeast. A 90 person meeting room and a business center are at the disposal of guests here to work, while leisure amenities are an indoor pool and a fitness center. The free breakfast includes a selection of hot items.

The Comfort Suites hotel in San Marcos has a prominent location beside the most central of the city's I-35 exits (Hwy 123), part of a small group of businesses that includes four restaurants. Guests are a short walk from John J Stokes City Park beside the San Marcos River, and 2 miles from the city center. The extra large accommodations feature a microwave, coffee maker, sofa bed and refrigerator. Free hot breakfast is provided, plus a take-out version for people leaving early. The other standard amenities include a meeting room, business & fitness centers, and an outdoor pool, this right at the front of the hotel, somewhat overlooked from the interstate.

The Quality Inn motel is 2 miles east of downtown San Marcos and Texas State University, and 7 miles from Tanger Outlets/Premium Outlets - a quick journey all along Interstate 35 which runs past at the front; access is from exit 205, Hwy 82. There are numerous restaurants a short walk away to the south. The hotel has exterior corridors and is surrounded on three sides by the parking lot. North-facing rooms have views of a patch of woodland, while those on the other side overlook the outdoor pool and hot tub. All accommodations contain a microwave/refrigerator. Continental breakfast is complimentary (plus a few hot items), as is wi-fi.

Springtown Center is 0.7 miles south of Howard Johnson San Marcos, offering many retail and dining outlets, and there are many other restaurants somewhat closer. The hotel is located right next to I-35 at the Hwy 82 exit, 2 miles east of the city center and one mile from parkland beside the San Marcos River. The usual two complimentary amenities of continental breakfast and wi-fi are available, together with an outdoor pool and a barbecue area. Guest rooms are on two floors of an exterior corridor building, with the parking lot mostly at the front, but extending to the rear via a covered driveway.

The Baymont Inn has a southerly location in San Marcos close to I-35, one of the first hotels to welcome interstate travelers from San Antonio and New Braunfels. Guest rooms are quiet since the property is positioned 350 feet back from the interstate frontage road at the end of a tree-lined driveway, and they overlook farmland to the north. There are two restaurants just down the street and others on the far side of the freeway adjoining Tanger Outlet Mall (0.3 miles). Guest rooms feature refrigerators and microwaves; a few have a whirlpool bath. Complimentary continental breakfast is provided. Leisure facilities are an indoor pool, a hot tub and a fitness center.

The Days Inn is part of a long line of hotels along the western I-35 frontage road a little way east of downtown San Marcos, including several other Wyndham properties. The two accommodation blocks are similar in appearance to many of the others; rooms are on two storys, accessed by exterior corridors, overlook the parking area, and contain a microwave & refrigerator. At the center of the site are a pleasant outdoor pool and lawn. The only other major amenities at the Days Inn are free wi-fi and free continental breakfast. Pets are welcome.

There are 54 guest rooms at Econo Lodge San Marcos, all containing a refrigerator & microwave, and a few featuring a full kitchenette. They are contained within an old-style, two floor building with exterior corridors, situated along Guadalupe Street, a few blocks south of the downtown area. Guests are also within walking distance of several parks along the San Marcos River, as well as a fair selection of restaurants. The motel has an outdoor pool at the front, and it provides free continental breakfast.

The blue-roofed Super 8 San Marcos adjoins a residential estate a short distance east of the city center, accessed from the northern I-35 frontage road, here running relatively far from the freeway lanes. The main amenity is an outdoor pool, at the front of the property, which has 2 floors and 40 guest rooms. Select accommodations feature a sofa bed in addition to the standard microwave, refrigerator and free wi-fi. Free continental breakfast is available, with eight items. For other meals, there are two restaurants in the vicinity.
