Central Salt Lake City Hotels

Named after two cartographers, who first mapped US railway lines, the Asher Adams is a prestigious hotel that occupies the former Union Pacific railroad passenger station, built in 1908 - now part of the Gateway Plaza shopping center, three blocks west of Temple Square in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City. Guests are within a short walk of many city center attractions including Delta Center, Clark Planetarium and the convention center. The TRAX rail stops right outside the hotel, which has 225 guest rooms, a signature restaurant (Rouser), a bar, a coffee house, meeting space, fitness center and a gift shop.

Le Méridien Salt Lake City, the fifth hotel of this prestigious, upscale brand in the West, opened early 2023, with a fine, central location adjacent to the Salt Palace Convention Center, one block from Temple Square, and opposite the Vivant Smart Home Arena, stadium of the Utah Jazz. The 144 room (on 11 floors), full service property is part of a larger development that also includes another Marriott hotel (Element), plus retail outlets; it has a rooftop bar (VanRyder), an all-day restaurant, fitness center, extensive meeting space and a rooftop pool. Guest rooms face all directions, allowing a variety of spectacular views, of the city, the mountains, and the desert to the west.

The Marriott in central Salt Lake City is a typically large, well managed, business-oriented hotel with a good location along State Street, two blocks south of Temple Square. The hotel has 12 floors and 249 rooms & suites, all comfortable, nicely decorated, equipped with luxurious accessories like marble bathrooms and HDTVs, and enjoying great views of the mountains or the city. The on site restaurant is La Bella Piastra, serving Italian-influenced dishes, and open for breakfast, lunch & dinner. There is also a Starbucks, open all day for drinks and snacks, and a lobby lounge/bar. Meeting facilities comprise 17 rooms totaling 15,000 sq ft of space.

The Marriott brand is represented by two hotels in downtown Salt Lake City within half a mile of each other; the larger sits along West Temple, directly opposite Salt Palace Convention Center, next to Arrow Press Square shopping center and one block from Temple Square. It offers excellent customer service, comfortable rooms with luxury bedding, two restaurants (the continental-influenced Elevations, and a Starbucks coffee house), a lounge/bar, indoor/outdoor pool, sauna, hot tub, fitness center and 22,000 sq ft of event space. The hotel is a 6 mile drive from the international airport (no free shuttle, however).

Many of the 218 rooms & suites at Marriott Salt Lake City University Park have excellent views over the Wasatch Mountains, which rise up just one mile away - the hotel is one of the few in the northeast part of Salt Lake City, on the campus of University of Utah. The nearest interstate is I-80, 3.5 miles south. Rates are relatively low, owing to the somewhat remote location, but the Marriott still has the expected high standards of customer service, facilities and comfort. Amenities include one concierge level, a restaurant, Starbucks cafe, lobby lounge, fitness center, indoor pool and 10,335 sq ft of meeting/event space.

Five blocks south of Temple Square, the Sheraton is a large, well-established, full service property of 362 guest rooms, including one bedroom suites and bi-level loft suites, most with private balconies, looking out across the tree-lined nieghborhood; some have views of the Wasatch Mountains to the east. Room service is available, from the onsite restaurant, 5th Street Grill, which is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. A Starbucks cafe sells drinks and snacks. The hotel has an outdoor pool, a fitness center and 22 meting rooms, largest single capacity 1,000. The Courthouse station on the light rail network is a short walk east, for easy travel throughout the city.

Now part of Hilton's Tapestry Collection, the Peery Hotel is one of the oldest in Salt Lake City, built in 1910, three blocks south of Temple Square along 300 S. The style, decor and furnishings are suitably authentic, and the hotel contains many references to the history of the mining and railroad industries. There are numerous restaurants close by, and one (Oak Kitchen) on the premises, open for lunch & dinner. Also available are a fitness center, business center, function space and a gift shop. Guest rooms contain a coffee maker, microwave and ironing facilities.

Although occupying an older building, guest rooms and other facilities at Hilton Salt Lake City Center are well maintained and have been regularly updated, making the hotel a good choice for either the business or leisure traveler. Rated AAA Four Diamond, the Hilton is known for its efficient staff, the comfortable rooms, the good quality food at the on-site restaurants, and the fine central location - along West Temple just across the street from the convention center and two blocks from Temple Square. Other facilities include an indoor pool, staffed business center, full service spa (The Retreat), and 24,000 sq ft of meeting space.

DoubleTree Suites by Hilton occupies a quarter of one block between West Temple and 600 South, in a business district half a mile south of Salt Palace Convention Center, and half a mile west of City Hall. The nearest Trax light rail station (Main St @ 450) is 0.2 miles away. The all-suite accommodation includes two-room and three-room configurations, all featuring a sofa bed, wet bar and ample living space. The hotel has its own all-day restaurant (room service available), plus Clouseau's Bar and Lounge, open for lunch, dinner & drinks. 6,000 sq ft of meeting space caters for events of up to 300 people, reception style. Leisure facilities are an indoor pool and fitness center.

Marriott's AC Hotel is part of an extensive development project also including apartments and retail space, at the southwest corner of 200 S and 200 W. The upscale, full service, 164 room/suite property features a fine, central location, a wide range of amenities, elegant design featuring local artwork, and top class customer service. All major amenities are on the ground floor - , including the function space, restaurant/lounge, patio and lobby, while the accommodations occupy the seven floors above. The hotel is one block south of the Salt Palace Convention Center, and half a mile from Temple Square.

The Radisson has one of the most central locations for any Salt Lake City hotel, one block or less from Temple Square, the Family History Library, Salt Palace Convention Center, Energy Solutions Arena and Gateway Mall. The hotel rises 14 floors above the city so most of its 381 guest rooms & suites enjoy spectacular views, towards the mountains in the east and the salt flats in the west. The Trax light rail runs right past (routes 704 and 701), linking, amongst many other locations, with the international airport, 7 miles away. Amenities at the Radisson include an all-day restaurant, lounge/bar, room service, indoor pool, whirlpool and 15,000 sq ft of meeting/event space.

The Courtyard by Marriott hotel in central Salt Lake City opened late 2015, built right opposite the EnergySolutions Arena, just down the street from the Gateway Mall, and a short walk from many other downtown landmarks including Salt Palace Convention Center and Temple Square. The main features are a bright, modern lobby with media board and comfortable seating, an indoor pool/whirlpool, a restaurant serving breakfast & dinner, and over 5,000 square feet of function space. Interstate 15 access is from exit 307, W 400 S. Courtyard Salt Lake City Downtown has six floors and 175 rooms.

Locations within four blocks of the Residence Inn by Marriott Salt Lake City include Temple Square, the Salt Palace Convention Center, ZCMI Center and The Gateway shopping mall - the hotel has a spacious site right in the middle of downtown, taking up most of one block on the corner of W 3rd S (Broadway) and S 2nd W, next to Pioneer Park. Accommodation comprises 178 spacious suites (each with a fully equipped kitchen; most with a private balcony) in two 4 floor blocks facing a large area of gardens, which contain an outdoor pool, sports court and hot tub. Free hot breakfast and light dinner (weekdays) are provided, or for other dining there are many good restaurants within a few minutes walk.

Although located in the city center, Homewood Suites Salt Lake City has a quiet location along a side street, bordered by Pioneer Park to the east and the State Archives Research Center to the west. Temple Square is one mile away. The hotel caters for extended stay guests or people needing more space and facilities; all accommodations are studio, one bedroom or two bedroom suites with separate living areas and full kitchens; cookable meals can be purchased from the on-site, 24 hour convenience store. Both full breakfast and evening receptions (Mon-Thu) are complimentary, as are wi-fi, a daily newspaper and local restaurant delivery service. A fitness center and rooftop outdoor pool are available for relaxation.

The well reviewed Hilton Garden Inn Salt Lake City Downtown has won several awards on account of its excellent customer service, cleanliness and quality of the accommodations. It has an on-site restaurant, Great American Grill, open for breakfast, dinner & room service, and provides a range of complimentary amenities including internet access, parking, printing and 24 hour airport transportation. The hotel enjoys an easily-reached location along W600S, four blocks west of Temple Square. All the oversized, beautifully decorated rooms contain a microwave & refrigerator; amongst the many other hotel facilities are an indoor pool/spa, 24 hour fitness center, convenience store and 2,800 sq ft of event space.

At the 400 South/300 West intersection, Hampton Inn Salt Lake City is 0.6 miles from the Salt Palace Convention Center, a couple of blocks from the heart of the downtown area, and right opposite Pioneer Park. The popular, well established hotel has 158 rooms & suites, contained within a five floor building enclosed by plenty of tree-lined parking space, adjacent to a couple of restaurants. Free hot breakfast is provided each morning, plus a take out version (Mon-Fri). Three meeting rooms can cater for events of up to 150 people. The hotel also offers the usual fitness center, business center, pool and whirlpool.

Hampton Inn & Suites has an elevated, east-central location in Salt Lake City along Foothill Drive, 5 miles from Temple Square, and right opposite the shops & restaurants of Foothill Village. East-facing rooms have good views across a tree-lined residential district to the wooded slopes of the Wasatch Mountains, which rise up just one mile away. Those on the west side look out towards the city. Other nearby locations are Bonneville Golf Course, This is the Place Heritage Park, University of Utah and Utah's Hogle Zoo. Facilities are above average, including meeting space, business & fitness centers, local area shuttle, convenience store, indoor pool and outdoor terrace.

The TownePlace Suites is a medium-sized, all-suite hotel of 95 rooms, occupying a small parcel along 200 S, directly south of the Salt Palace Convention Center; there is no dedicated parking lot but spaces are available in an adjacent multi-storey facility. The ground floor is taken up by the fitness center, business center, meeting space and dining area for the free hot breakfast, while the suites occupy the other five floors. All accommodations include a fully equipped kitchen.

Element Salt Lake City Downtown occupies part of a mixed-use Marriott development, also including the Le Méridien hotel, on the west side of the Salt Palace Convention Center along John Stockton Drive (300 West). Most accommodations are suites (studio, one bedroom and four bedroom layouts), these with fully equipped kitchens and separate areas for working & living. Daily hot breakfast is complimentary. General amenities, shared with the Le Méridien, include a rooftop bar and swimming pool, the Adelaide bar/restaurant (open for breakfast, lunch & dinner), a fitness center and event space.

Catering for long stay visitors to downtown Salt Lake City, the new SpringHill Suites is a modern, all-suite hotel on the corner of W 6th S & S 3rd W streets, so towards the south side of the city center. The 86 rooms all have separate areas for working, dining & sleeping, and are furnished with a microwave, refrigerator, ironing facilities and coffee maker. Free full breakfast is offered, plus a 24 hour convenience store for the purchase of snacks and other items. For relaxation the hotel has the three essentials of an exercise room, hot tub and pool (indoor).

The Holiday Inn Express in downtown Salt Lake City is situated two blocks south of Temple Square, and just across the street from Salt Palace Convention Center and Arrow Press Square Mall. The property is quite large, containing 214 rooms on 12 storys, looking out across the busy surroundings, which include several adjacent restaurants and a small city park. Hot breakfast, internet access and airport transportation are all complimentary. A 100 person meeting room and well equipped business center are available for those here to work; leisure facilities are a fitness center and indoor pool.

The well-established Salt Lake Plaza Hotel, now part of Best Western's SureStay Collection, rises 13 floors above the city center, located right next to Temple Square - on the west side, overlooking South Temple; also within one block of Salt Palace Convention Center, Utah Museum of Contemporary Art and the Family History Library. The Temple Square Station along the TRAX system (Blue Line and Green Line) is right in front, enabling easy travel across the city. The hotel offers an outdoor pool, a fitness center, a gift shop and snack bar.

The Fairfield Inn hotel in downtown Salt Lake City is quite centrally located along W 400 S - four blocks from Temple Square and the ZCMI Center, three blocks from the Gateway shopping/office center and two blocks east of Pioneer Park. Although in the middle of a built-up neighborhood, the hotel has a tree-lined site that creates a restful atmosphere, enhanced by the comfortable and well equipped rooms. The hotel provides good quality free hot breakfast; other features are a modern lobby, a 24 hour convenience store, an indoor pool, hot tub and fitness center.

The Comfort Inn hotel at 171 W 500 S in south central Salt Lake City is a part of the Salt City Plaza development, which features restaurants, shops and office space, all within a few blocks of the downtown area. The hotel contains 85 rooms including several sizes of suite, all well equipped with such amenities as a refrigerator, microwave, pillow top mattresses and free internet access. Guests have use of a fitness center, hot tub & convenience store, and the Comfort Inn also has the expected facilities for business and meetings. Free full breakfast is served each morning.

The Park Inn is one of the most central budget-priced properties in downtown Salt Lake City, located between 500 S and 600 S, close to several other hotels. Salt Lake City Hall is half a mile east, and the nearest station on the light rail network (Courthouse) is 2 blocks away. The motel has an outdoor pool, right at the front beside the street intersection, while other amenities are wi-fi, free continental breakfast, and a microwave/refrigerator in select accommodations. There are several restaurants adjacent or just down the road.

The Quality Inn has a southerly position in Salt Lake City, six blocks south of Temple Square along Hwy 269 (E 600 S), and it provides simple, affordable accommodations in a four story, interior corridor building surrounded by a reasonable amount of parking space (indoor & outdoor). Nearby are a typical selection of restaurants, shops, corporate locations and other hotels. The motel provides free continental breakfast and free wi-fi. Meeting space and a fitness center are the other two main amenities.

Rates at Econo Lodge Downtown are quite low, reflecting the rather old guest rooms and the sometimes noisy location right next to I-15, but the motel is a good choice for budget Salt Lake City accommodation, being just one mile from Temple Square - due east along Temple Street. Utah State Fairgrounds, EnergySolutions Arena and Crossroads Plaza are also within a few blocks. At the motel, continental breakfast, airport shuttle and internet access are all free; also available are an outdoor pool and guest laundry.
