The south end of
Point Reyes National Seashore adjoins the peaceful settlement of Bolinas, from where Mesa Road heads north a short distance to the
Palomarin Trailhead, start point for hikes into the southern section of the preserve. Nearby
Palomarin Beach is typical of this section of the coast; a narrow stretch of pebbles beneath sloping cliffs of soft, yellow-brown sandstone. The place is not especially scenic and not much visited - most people head north along the Coast Trail, to varied destinations including lakes, streams, waterfalls and other, sandier beaches.
