Directly below the south end of Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco,
Fort Point National Historic Site protects a well preserved, brick-built military installation dating from 1853. The place is small, though adjoins the much larger Presidio, within Golden Gate National Recreation Area, yet it receives many visitors, in part because of the spectacular location at the entrance to San Francisco Bay, and is often visited in conjunction with the bridge. The fort contains many historical relics, and stages regular reconstructions.
