For some distance southwest of Canyonlands National Park, the Colorado River is reachable only by multi-day hikes along lengthy canyons like Gypsum, Bodie and Dark; easier access is not possible until the vicinity of the UT 95 crossing, near
Hite, Lake Powell. One much shorter tributary drainage, not often visited, is
Rock Canyon, which contains several narrow sections, and is bordered by benches, which towards the lower end have views of the river. The canyon is reached by a short drive along Hite Road, a lengthy unpaved route which eventually leads to the Maze district of Canyonlands.
