Spencer Trail, Lees Ferry
PreviousThe lower end of Glen Canyon - along the Spencer TrailNext

The Spencer Trail starts at Lees Ferry, just below the mouth of Glen Canyon, and climbs 1,600 feet over 2.1 miles to the top of the cliffs, giving fantastic views of the Colorado River as it exits the canyon, flowing past the jagged, irregular slopes of the Echo Peaks, the lower part of which are mostly covered by a huge sand dune. Downstream, the Colorado emerges into the flatlands below the ferry, where the river soon becomes enclosed once more, at the start of the Grand Canyon. A short walk northwards at the end of the official trail reaches an alternative viewpoint, of a narrower section of Glen Canyon, just downstream of Horseshoe Bend.
