The most southerly of the six reservoirs along the Colorado River is
Lake Havasu, which began filling in 1938 after completion of
Parker Dam. The lake has flooded 38 miles of the river, and its shoreline is largely inaccessible, enclosed by rough, desert terrain. Activities are mostly restricted to just two areas, Lake Havasu City about half way along the eastern edge, and the area around the dam, which includes the residential community of
Havasu Springs Resort.
