Davis Dam across the Colorado River was built in 1951 to form
Lake Mohave, a long, thin reservoir extending northwards almost to the base of the Hoover Dam. The northernmost section of the lake is within the confines of Black Canyon, a particularly deep, narrow, dark-walled gorge, but the majority is bordered by more gently sloping terrain of hills and washes - typical scenery of the Mojave Desert. Just below Davis Dam, the recently established
Colorado River Heritage Greenway Park has a variety of facilities including fishing piers, picnic ramadas and trails.
