Moonshine Wash is a long way from a paved road - 30 miles - so is very little visited, despite being close to the
Horseshoe Canyon district of Canyonlands National Park. Named after the illicit whisky distilling that once took place nearby, the wash is surrounded by the flat, rather featureless plains of the Escalante Desert but forms a very photogenic slot canyon, similar in depth, narrowness and color to many others, but here enlivened still further by the unusual angular, irregular, thin-layered surface textures of the enclosing walls.
Location: Saucer Basin, 42 miles west of Hwy 24 and 30 miles south of the town of Green River -
