Anza-Borrego Desert in southern California has the most diverse landscapes of any state park, ranging from sand dunes and badlands around sea level to forested mountains over 6,000 feet. Sites of interest include palm oases, old mines, slot canyons and eroded rock formations, plus a great range of wildflowers, cacti and other desert plants. The park, which is centered on the dispersed town of Borrego Springs, is most popular for 4WD exploration, primitive camping and hiking.
